The RR Open (Updated Edition!)

May 31, 2015

invite

O-O

On Saturday, June 20th, Rancho Reubidoux will have its first Open Garden in years! I’ve chosen this date because it’s the day before the official first day of summer, 2015. My hope is that it will be a delicious day that combines the best of spring with early summer mildness; a perfect day for hanging out in our garden and visiting. (UPDATE: IT’LL BE HOT, HOT, HOT!!) If you’ve been to the Rancho in the past I think you’ll be surprised at how much it’s changed, and if you’ve only seen it in pictures you’re in for a treat because the real thing is so much better! But that’s not all … RR readers will also have the opportunity to satisfy their garden shopping urges: Vickie Perez will be here with a selection of her best succulent planters on offer, local succulent propagator Rob MacGregor will have an array of terrific specimens for sale, and if we’re lucky Stephen Penn will show up with a truckload of one-of-a-kind rusted oddities! (UPDATE: STEPHEN PENN WILL BE AT THE SALE WITH AN OTHER-WORLDLY COLLECTION OF INDUSTRIAL PIECES!!) Click over for full info and we’ll see you then!

Ay caramba, consider this a big, huge affirmative R to the SVP. Sounds perfectly awesome. Can’t wait!

Terrific, Luisa — Can’t wait to see you again … sorry you missed pancakes at Dustin’s this morning!

Awesome, WF! I’m not sure how, yet, but I will take you up on your offer. I’ll be in touch and thanks!! 😉

I have the very same day-of-the-dead pillow cover! How much of a coincidence is that? Love that seating area.

    • June 1, 2015 5:54 pm

Great minds and all that, V! I got mine at a great garden shop in Orange, near the train station.

  4. June 1, 2015 6:40 pm

Oh how I wish I could come!! I will be waiting for photos and/or videos. Good luck with weather, I know it will be a big success.

    • June 1, 2015 6:51 pm

Thanks, Val, I wish you could come, too! And you’re right: The weather is the variable I’m most worried about! I’m going to delete your multiple comments (obviously WordPress was having a hiccup).

Thank you, Reuben. I’d love to come and experience your garden. I have a few succulents too, and am constantly looking for the unusual. Your garden impresses me with it’s exotic choices.

    Hi to Paul.

Hi, Phyllis, I’m looking forward to meeting you … and Paul says hi! See you on the 20th. 😉

I’ll be there! Have bought from Vickie and Rob at the Elks Flower & Garden in May…so I know good stuff will abound…looking forward to seeing the Rancho!!

And I’ll be looking forward to this too. I know it will be a fun afternoon with like minded folks! Guess I better get some more goodies done!

    • June 2, 2015 4:50 am

Yep, Vickie, pull out your best! It should be a fun day at the ol’ Rancho. 😉
Let me know if there’s anything you need as the date draws nearer …

  8. June 2, 2015 1:48 pm

*sigh*… Living several states away I can only hope you’ll post loads of photos of all the hubbub once the big day arrives. I’ll certainly be there in spirit (which is a much less expensive way to visit I suppose). Here’s hoping the weather is ideal, the crowds are courteous, and the fun lasts just…long…enough!

  9. June 3, 2015 7:42 pm

I’ll be there! Let me know if there’s anything I can bring or do, like help with setup, etc.

  10. June 9, 2015 4:20 pm

I’m sooooo tempted even though you’re 6 1/2 hours away. Tell me I’m crazy for evening considering it…

    • June 9, 2015 5:35 pm

Yikes — Although I’d love to meet you, Gerhard, I’d be horrified if you drove 6.5 hours to see my garden! I mean it’s pretty cool but I couldn’t face myself if you were, like, meh, is that it?! Better to see you in the fall . . . it’ll wait. 😉

  11. June 12, 2015 3:43 pm

This might be my RSVP, too. I do keep saying I need to head to “LA” for a few days…fingers crossed…wishing I could have planned my trip to an out-of-town client, then Las Vegas with this…..

Hi Reuben…so happy to see the Rancho Blog is back again. . Can’t wait to see the new plants and other changes soon..
How is your back? Hopefully your health is better, and you will be 100%
. Hello to Paul and your puppies.
    Val

Hi, Val, I’m sorry to say that I’m not returning to Rancho Reubidoux blog. My back issues continue and it’s fallout from that condition that is keeping me from its return. And, I’m sorry to say that our poochie, Frito, was spirited away by a trio of coyotes about a month ago. Why did you think it was beginning again? I’m happy to see your comment, however, reminds me of the ‘good ol’ days’! I hope all is well with you.

Oh so sorry to hear about Frito…..would love a quarterly or even an annual update of your life and whatnot….Guida xo

      • July 6, 2016 11:55 pm

Hi, Guida! Yes, poor little Frito, his manly doggie impulses put him in harm’s way … and the coyotes are really skinny in these parts. As to RR: It’s interesting, I responded to a comment and somehow seemingly reactivated it! How great to read you here again. Your quarterly idea is an interesting one … I’ll think about it. In the meantime thanks so much!

Oh no…so sad to hear about Frito.
I guess when I got the email, I thought “YAY, He’s back”.
I understand about the health issues. My husband has been waiting for a new heart valve, but with socialized medicine, I don’t know when he will have the surgery. We just wait.
Anyway, it’s good to hear from you. Take care of yourself and keep in touch.
        v
