Back Up, Moses!
In the Old Testament story, Moses receives his move-’em-out orders from God who grabs his attention as a “bush that was on fire but did not burn up”. Although the chatty bush in question was never ID’ed I’d like to think it might’ve been the euphorbia tirucalli, or fire stick plant. Here’s one of my plants that looks not only like a personage of some sort, but also seems to be afire from top to bottom. I’m really happy about this blazin’ display, since most of my tirucalli‘s have been dull as dishwater all year …

Back to the Bible story: God warns Moses to step back and to remove his sandals; His presence has made the very ground he’s standing on holy … I may not have the same level of authority but heed this warning: If you break this plant, DO NOT rub its sap in your eyes — Do it and you’ll be calling out for Jehovah!

Click here for my popular 2010 post on the subject … Almost daily someone reads it after doing a Google search on what to do if euphorbia milk gets in your eyes.
I have my fire stick in a large pot on the patio by the pool. With this freezing weather I have had to cover it only to realize there has been some frost damage. I hope all your succulents are fairing well through this crazy cold weather…
Hi, Catherine, my succulents are okay so far … But we haven’t really had freezing temps yet. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your ‘sticks!
I think I saw it move.
Right?! It looks like it could just walk away …
Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog for a little while today. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as good as when I arrived. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks!
I noticed you’d stopped by and was a bit amazed … I mean, you’re such an amazing photographer I hope you weren’t too horrified at my relatively feeble attempts. Thanks for commenting and stop by any time, Russel!
