Six Succulent Gifts I Wouldn’t Mind Receiving If I Were to Receive Them

It’s the love-it-or-hate-it giving season again … time to choose something worthy of presentation to another out of love, appreciation, friendship. But if you’re like me, the idea of going to the mall is akin to organ donation — while still living. So, I do all my gift shopping online. And where better than the global crafts fair that is Etsy? With thousands of artists, crafters and artisans, it’s a sure bet one will find amazing goods — succulent goods — worth gifting. For this post, I was going to pretend I was shopping for six friends … but that was annoying because I couldn’t decide which six. So, I cut the friends out of the equation (sorry, guys) and decided I would look for gifts that would suit a finicky, design-obsessed, artsy-fartsy, hard-to-buy-for sort. … In other words, gifts that would suit me! It took intensive consideration (and endless scrolling; there were more than 6,000 items listed under succulents!), but I found six gifts I would love to receive this season. Each has a quality that makes them special, a sensibility that makes them appealing. And, they’re all still available … You know, just in case you’d like to give one of them to someone; maybe a blogger … someone who lives in a Rancho …

1. Waterstone Succulent’s sculpture in geometric container: Available in five colors (gold, silver, copper, nickel, white), these lovely little succulent sculptures were cast from the real thing. Each arrives in its own geometric pot and is 3″ to 4″ tall and 3 to 3 1/2″ in diameter. 2. Lunas Crafts’ realistic crocheted cacti and succulents: Offered singly or grouped into bowl gardens (my preference), these whimsical crocheted succulents are the antithesis of the real deal. 4. Smartwood Gallery’s agave stalk iPhone dock: Charge your phone and lift your mood with this clever design. Made from a bamboo-like portion of a fallen Century Plant’s (agave americana) stalk, the dock mechanism is built in (as is its 6-ft long cord) and includes a spot for a votive candle. 5. My Favourite Colour’s west coast succulents pillow cover: The perfect gift for people who say they can’t have anything nice with little kids around, this one arrives pre-scribbled. I love the mix of textbook illustrations and messy “coloring” … she’s got a similar one with birds of the region that’s great. Made of easy-to-care-for cotton, it fits a 20″ x 20″ pillow; $40.50.
