Nature of Tumblr

The blogging platform, tumblr, is my latest addiction … Alice’s rabbit hole for visual people like me, I can literally spend hours clicking and tumbling from blog to blog, image to image … it’s beyond fun and a great way to see things — so many things — I’ve never seen before; I find this intensely pleasurable. A tumblr blog may focus on a particular topic, such as street fashion or all things Gaga; others are more personal, some intensely too, offering up TMI in embarrassing buckets; the NSFW gamut is on shame-free display, of course, and one can only marvel at what folks get up to. Some of my fave blogs include all of these things, providing dizzying and awkward visual non-sequiturs while clicking through; this is very tumblr. Most tumblr blogs include a disclaimer explaining that the images shown are not the blogger’s property, were found on the internet, and will be taken down if the image’s owner objects. In other words, it’s pretty anything-goes.

This post is a random pull of images I found on tumblr blogs. All have to do with nature and plants and none of them belong to me … As on tumblr, should the owner of any of these images contact me objecting to their inclusion here, I will gladly take it down. … I’m opening this post with an image type that is a mainstay of many tumblr blogs: the animated gif … This one is slightly seizure-inducing, but I like how it reflects the drug effect attributed to poppies. And it’s weird! Here’s more …

Images that make a veiled political-social comment are common …

On tumblr nature can be blindingly fashionable …

It can offer classic, studied representations of botanica …

It can display nature elevated to the realm of the erotic …

… or coinciding impossibly.

And, as in Alice’s looking glass world, tumblr blog images are very often alluringly surreal.

I thought about posting links to my fave tumblr blogs but decided against it. I’m hoping you’ll go there and explore as I did … clicking through blogs and images — free-falling like Alice.
When I first opened your post I thought something was wrong with my computer. Then I thought oh no, now he’s getting too cool for the room. haha. I ‘ve never explored Tumblr before – it looks fascinating.
