My agave multifilifera‘s new flower stalk is a certified overachiever. Only supposed to reach 16″ in length, it’s now 38″ tall and shows no sign of stopping.
When we first noticed it a week ago (click here), it was only 6″ long … now it’s more than 6 times that! Anyone care to hazard a guess as to when it tops out?
I’m getting antsy for the pink/green flowers that’re supposed to appear; I’ll post new photos on Saturday. Thanks to Rancho’s at-home correspondent, Paul, for measurements and photo.
But this is sad, because it will die soon after it flowers, right?
Weeellll, I haven’t actually read that that’s the case yet … so I’m hoping it’s not. **crosses fingers**
Just a question: do you give tours of your home & property? Do you participate in ArtWalk First Thursdays? Thanks for the beautifully-photographed and descriptive posts!
Hi, Judith… well, we’ve been known to offer an impromptu tour here and there … and, we were a stop on the Riverside Flower Show garden tour this past April … I’ve never thought of being part of First Thursday, however. It’s an interesting idea, but that day’s my most fraught at the office and I get home too late to arrive in anything other than a surly mood.
I appreciate the compliments, thanks!
Maybe you would consider the Riverside Co Medical Center Garden Tour, if 1st Thursdays aren’t good for you. Hmmmmm, he said. As for the agave, I have one succulent that puts up a stalk but it takes weeks for it to bloom, it seems. Maybe that’s just my impatience (impatiens?!) talking.
Hey, Kim, I was told about this medical center garden tour during the other … but it’ll be a while before I do another; it’s just soooo much work! I enjoyed being part of the other immensely; I just need time to build up steam again … next time your succulent blooms send me a pic, I’d love to see it!
