Ephemeral Portraiture

June 12, 2011

As the possessor of a hair trigger imagination I can be prone to distraction, often leading to procrastination. Even a mundane task like yard work can lead to flights of fancy, not to mention hours spent away from the original endeavor consorting with the muse. Such was the case yesterday, when raking up plant debris lead to the following garden portraits. Introductions are in order …

Lady Eugenie Brugmansia

Her perfume now muted, and ruffles a bit lank, this formerly proper lady closes her eyes to the daylight  … She’s trying to think back to the point where the garden party took a turn for the debauched; wondering who invited that talented hummingbird ?

Rubber T. Ree

Brawny, tall and — until recently — topped in glossy green foliage, our ficus elastica‘s been shedding heavily … the ground around his feet littered with fallen leaves. Does the loss of so much off the top concern him? Nah, he’s not worried at all. Really, he’s not.

Ozman Eucalyptus, Esq.

A bit high-strung, our  brittle-barked Australian chum sheds at will, knowing full-well we’ll pick up after him. After all, he can’t be bothered with such workaday concerns, he’s got other worries. Despite the recent local koala census coming up goose egg, he remains suspicious. A clear cut case of once eaten, twice shy.

NOTE: All materials used in the creation of these portraits were found during regular garden clean-up … and, immediately after being photographed, were binned.

Thanks, MM… not sure about the yearly thing… it seems like it’s been a couple of weeks’ shedding now…

Ponders what sort of debauchery a hummingbird might get into…. Oh, yeah!
My Ficus elastica drops leaves whenever the weather turns cool… has it been especially cool out your way?
Anyway, I love these faces! They seem awfully familiar to me. What a fun post!

What garden parties you host! They seem familiar to me too. I’m thinking The Great Gatsby for some reason…
