The Reveal: Part 1
You see it, don’t you? The agave potatorum that I first posted about in early August, has finally begun to bloom! Well, sort of … actually, only the lowest, largest bud cluster has opened, and only slightly. Still, I can finally stop worrying that my most-prized agave has something wrong with it. With hatpin-like stamens shooting out of the buds I’m now sure the full blossoms can’t be far behind …
A lovely shade of yellow-green, the stamens hint at the color of the blossoms to come. With the bud-opening, the stalk itself has stopped growing; like last week, it remains 90″-long. I’m not entirely surprised that the agave’s choosing now to bloom: it’s had a dramatic bent since it suddenly shot out a foot-long stalk in early August. Now, three months-on, it’s decided the thunder, lightning and rain of the last few days were a suitable introduction for its flower show. More stamens, and the proper petals, should be presenting themselves in the next few days … I’ll post on them as they do!
Great shot!
Thanks, but I’m running out of ideas and positions for shooting this plant!
It sure is taking its sweet time. Can’t wait to see it open up for you. My little guy is happy 🙂
Believe me, the suspense is killing me!
