So Secretive
Another Saturday and we still have no blossoms on our agave potatorum. The buds remain tightly closed, although they do seem plumper … maybe next week? There have been some changes, however …
… the stalk has grown another 4″, making it a full 90″ in length. It also seems, visually, to be leaning just a bit more. I’m trying not to get too worried about the lean becoming so great that it pulls the agave out of the ground … at least not until the buds open! Could the agave be keeping its blossoms under wraps because we’re in the midst of a last-gasp Summer heatwave down here? It’s supposed to be over 100-degrees tomorrow and Monday, after all … at those temps I’m thinking I should be in lockdown, too.
What a drama queen that agave is! Building all this anticipation!
Yer telllin’ me!
I have a special relationship with that Agave, by virtue of my triumphant victory in the spike-height contest …hopefully the flowers will last at least as long as the prequel !
I agree, after this build-up I’m hoping the agave’s main act sticks around awhile … unlike this heat, which can leave NOW!
I agree, heat BEGONE! It got to 116° yesterday where I was, where I coincidentally had to spend most of the day outside (a wedding! Where do they come up with this stuff?)
I’m usually more of an Aloe lover, but you may have made a convert out of me! That is one amazing plant. I want one!
Gawd, another friend of mine was at an outdoor wedding in the heat yesterday, too… I would’ve called in ‘sick!’
Can’t believe it’s holding out on you. We’ve been loving the 75 degree sunny days up here on the coast 🙂
Go ahead, rub it in!
