Saturday Sale.3

Heavily classic

Last stop: We still had room in the car, so we drove through a few more neighborhoods looking for sale signs. We’d almost given up for the day when we came across a sale that didn’t have a sign, but seemed to hold some promise. Some 40s dishware seemed interesting, but had a crack the length of the piece I wanted most. Framed prints looked good from the street but close up, not so much. Wait, what about those urns? Could they really be cast iron? They were! And, they had great presence as well as patina … I was told the price was $50 each. Hmmm … feigning interest in some bric-a-brac while I plotted my next move, I finally asked what the seller’s best price was. She came back with $75 and we hopped into the car to hit the ATM. Having paid, getting these guys into the car took some work: they’re super heavy! Once home, I perched the white-painted one on some concrete piles at the front of the pagan temple. Fantastic! …

Prince Charles?

The other urn, unpainted and beautifully rusty, took its place on the opposite end. I’ve always loved this classic urn shape and it perfectly suits the temple area. Plus, the handles remind me of how much I like people with oversized ears! I’m hoping that the Jurupa Mountain Center’s Green Faire, in a couple weeks, will yield the perfect succulent accompaniments for these new Rancho additions. Phew, garage/yard sale-ing can really take it out of a guy … but, the fun is in the finding, and today was perfect!
