Saturday Sale.2
Next stop: Bonnie & Bruce’s water-wise plant sale. I wasn’t particularly on the hunt for water-stingy plants, so much as interested in seeing what new succulent container gardens Bonnie had put together. At her last sale she’d had quite an assortment of cutesy/kitschy/quirky ceramic containers and matched them well with tiny succulents. This sale was no different and I had to pick up just a few … not for myself, you see, but for gifts. I mean who wouldn’t want a mother-horse-nuzzling-her-foal planter that featured 3 diminutive succulents in its faux wood-grain well? Or, the chubby, amazingly, blasé elephant with a very prickly cactus on its back? Or, even my fave: the wingless, eyeless, larvae with an eensie cactus growing out of its spine? Other shapely catches included a yellow/green goblet and darker green-glazed fluted rectangle. I also had to have a simple abablone shell that contained a single purple/green hen-minus-chick sempervivum — maybe the chicks will arrive by the time I decide who should receive it …
Two other containers rounded out this shopping spree: a shallow green bowl with contrasting stripes, featuring a lime green angelina sedum, and a curvalicious modern dish with green and white zebra-striped haworthia. The contrast of smooth pot against spiky, textured plant really looks great. We admired a cactus in B&B’s landscape that was in full crimson flower and they gave us a piece for the Rancho, so with these great buys, this stop was a complete success! Total for all these diminutive delights: $45 … thanks, Bonnie!
no, thank you for your great post and buying several items from us…we had a great day and much of it was thanks to you.
You’re welcome — and everyone I’ve given a container to has been delighted!
